Welcome!

Hello, I am Bernice. I am a Licensed Massage and Bodywork Therapist in both Illinois and North Carolina. I graduated from Cortiva Institute in Joliet, Illinois, in 2017 and have practiced therapeutic massage and bodywork since 2018. I am currently pursuing advanced education in Clinical Rehabilitative Massage to deepen my understanding of musculoskeletal dysfunction, pain, mobility, and recovery.

I specialize in integrative massage and therapeutic bodywork. Rather than following one standardized routine, I combine techniques according to each client’s goals, comfort, and presentation. My work may include intelligent deep tissue massage, sports massage, myofascial release, trigger point therapy, lymphatic drainage, Thai massage, Tui Na, cupping, active isolated stretching (AIS), proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF), fertility and IVF support massage, and trauma-informed therapeutic bodywork.

My approach is focused on reducing muscular tension, supporting mobility, improving range of motion, and promoting deep relaxation. I have experience supporting clients with chronic muscular tension, postural discomfort, limited mobility, overuse patterns, sciatic-type discomfort, headaches, TMJ-related tension, and shoulder, hip, and knee mobility following surgery.

I am excited to begin my journey at Matthews Massage and Wellness. I look forward to working alongside this incredible community of wellness practitioners and supporting you on your own path to healing and wellness.

Outside of my work, I enjoy traveling and exploring new places.

If you could describe your massage style in three words, what would they be?

My massage style would be therapeutic, healing, and calming. I believe the greatest benefits of massage include relief from muscular tension and discomfort, improved mobility and body awareness, increased relaxation, and the opportunity for the body and nervous system to slow down and recover.

Share a favorite book or movie that has left a lasting impression on you and why it resonated with you.

She does not have a favorite book, but the most memorable book she has studied is the Sefer Yetzirah. It resonated with her because it offers an interesting exploration of thought, creation, and spiritual practice that invites deeper reflection.

What's the most rewarding aspect of being a massage therapist for you?

I began my massage career after transitioning from healthcare administration and corporate service roles. My interest in massage grew from a desire to help people move more comfortably, reduce muscular tension, and remain connected to their bodies as they mature. My healthcare and leadership background shaped my commitment to listening carefully, educating clients, and providing individualized, relationship-centered care.

What other studies have influenced your bodywork in a significant way?

My certification as an herbalist and Reiki practitioner reflects my interest in whole-person wellness and the relationship between the body, daily practices, and overall well-being. This knowledge complements my bodywork background while remaining separate from medical diagnosis or treatment.
